Under the cover of darkness
When dastardly deeds do creep
Safety and security fail
While the leaders sleep.
Hidden by broken street lamps
Piled high into the heap
Broken dreams and promises
While the leaders sleep
While they sleep the peace of victory
Stolen from the hearts of man
They slumber ever so peacefully
While criminals pillage the land
The children cry for comfort
The pains they feel are deep
The cut, it bleeds profusely
While the leaders sleep
The mothers stand in hallways
Evidence of crimes, they sweep
Each one has their story to tell
While the leaders sleep
Wake up all you leaders
Your constituents await
The justice you have long withheld
You alone have hold of their fate
You make deals and decisions
That affects their every choice
Yet every move you make “for” them
Weakens their already weak voice
Yet you move with great abandon
You speak with such eloquence
You enjoy your freedom
While they hide behind a fence
A fence made of hypocrisy
Deceit, false plans
Laws that bind them to the walls
Shackles them hand to hand
You work within “the System”
Its policies you keep
So you can be ‘in control’
While your villagers sleep
But they sleep with one eye open
Fearing dangers you instilled deep
Dangers you swore they would never see
Because you said, you had ‘promises to keep’
Promises to protect them
To see to their every need
Promises you let be trampled
While you, the leader sleeps.
When dastardly deeds do creep
Safety and security fail
While the leaders sleep.

Stay Safe and Alert!!!
